How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Shelf of tires

The rule of thumb is that tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. While this is a broad rule you can follow, it’s important for you to check your owner’s manual for the recommended interval. Still curious about when to rotate tires? Take a look at our Covert Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram guide to learn more!

Rotating Tires on FWD and RWD Vehicles

Depending on what wheels receive power, you’ll experience different amounts of tire wear. If your car is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD), then your front wheels will wear faster. If your car is Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), then you will notice your rear wheels wearing more quickly. Browse our tips for rotating tires below:

  • FWD and RWD cars should have their tires rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, and your owner’s manual will have your exact interval.
  • When FWD tires are rotated, the front wheels are moved to the back, and they swap sides. For example, the rear right tire will go on the front left. However, when moving the front tires are moved to the back, they are kept them on the same side.
  • When you rotate tires on a RWD car, the same is done, but in reverse. Flip sides when moving the front tires to the back, but keep the rear tires on the same side when moving them to the front of your vehicle.
  • Your driving style will affect your tire wear, as well as your driving conditions. Potholes on Round Rock streets and off-road excursions through Leander can do a number on your tires. AWD Tire Rotation Tips

Because All-Wheel Drive (AWD) systems supply power to all four wheels differently, it can be harder to pinpoint when exactly to rotate your tires. While the rule of thumb 3,000 to 5,000 miles, you should always check your owner’s manual for the exact interval. If you can’t remember the last time you performed a tire rotation, don’t hesitate to contact our service center neat Westlake. We’ll perform an inspection and let you know if your tires should be rotated.

Why Rotate Tires?

Tire rotations don’t just increase vehicle safety and prolong tire life. There are several additional benefits that come from regular tire rotation, including:

  • Reduces drivetrain stress
  • Improved traction on slippery roads
  • Less noise on the road
